Governor's STEM Scholars is a program with the goal of retaining STEM talent in New Jersey by having college students lead a team of high schoolers in a research project. For the term of the project, they are also expected to attended various events to expose them to opportunities within the state.
Our project was combining two different strands of 3D printer filament. This was done with an Arduino board, a heating element and thermistors for temperature control and measurement, servo motors for moving the filament lines, and an LCD board and control knob for user control. The housing was all 3D printed.
My job as one of the team leads was to guide the students towards a working solution, without taking over the project. This gave me a much better understanding on the components we were working and how to break complicated topics down to a level others can understand.
